MLB Trivia: The Real Dominican Daddy

Lots of great MLB players have come from the Dominican Republic, and they always field a competitive team at the World Baseball Classic. But can you name the Dominican-born MLB player with the most all-time hits?

Total guess, but I'll say Sammy.

You're killing me, Greg. What in the world do I know about the Dominican, other than it's full of Dominicans?

However, this link may help someone who's a little more sensitive to issues of race, ethnicity, and nationality:

I don't have a clue what the answer is now, but in about 10 years, it'll be Pujols, without a doubt.

The answer is Julio Franco with 2,586 hits. Although, Manny Ramirez (2,573) will likely pass him within the first few weeks of this season. Sammy Sosa was also close with 2,408 career hits.

This quote made that link totally awesome.

"For starting pitchers we have two Dominicans, one Italian, one Mexican and one Japanese. In the bullpen we have a Venezuelan, a Mexican, a guy from the United States and a guy from St. Louis." - Los Angeles Dodger / Hall of Fame Manager Tommy Lasorda (AP Wire, 08/18/1999)

That is a great quote. I actually had skipped over it the first time I visited that page, so thanks for pointing it out.
